For 'practical reasons' there would have been two or three 'guardians of the room' (checking that the candles do not cause a fire, keeping away 'inconvenient pests' etc round the clock. It is unlikely that they would be all the same shape/height, so it would be advisable to have clothes that would fit all. (I am presuming that there would be equivalents for male equivalents). Most 'religious clothing' (in its broadest sense) does not look like ordinary clothing - some priestly clothing can be very ornate indeed, and is only worn in the religious clothing, so the 'rest of the time' Meegat might well be wearing tunic and slacks / furs etc.
