With Blake, the usual hero/villain/anti-hero boundaries don't work. Heroes aren't supposed to kill as dispassionately, to be as calculating (when he has to), to have that ice-cold streak - to be willing to take all that blood on their own hands (nor, on a lighter note, to be that autocratic and obstinate and bad-tempered :-)). Anti-heroes aren't supposed to be warm and caring (and yes he *is* IMHO, you've all heard the arguments :-)). Villains (and there are times when what I've read in fanfic or the archives pretty much makes him out to be the villain of the whole piece) aren't supposed to be on the side of freedom, be willing to sacrifice themselves for others, or have a weakness for helping metaphorical lame puppies.
