It seems to me that there is a _big_ difference between a tacky US supermarket tabloid and fandom (although I'm beginning to wonder...). We as fans rely on the goodwill of the actors to keep them coming back to cons, endorsing our zines, etc. They don't have to have anything to do with us if they don't want to--look at Josette Simon. Whereas the tabloids thrive on stirring up as much bad feeling as possible about celebrities, as saying nasty things about them sells copies. Whether or not they get sued for them or their pictures, they can hardly be said to have the slightest bit of respect for the people they cover.
Is that what you want? Tabloid fandom?
