I'm suddenly reminded of a number of male bonding moments in films. I don't understand them and I never will, but a great many successful movies seem to rest on the idea that friendship can be based on someone almost getting you killed in a callous fashion (did anyone see "Remember the Titans"? I'm still not sure what brought the team together when I thought they were about to start stomping each other).
