Haven't I heard the name "Devon" in real life before? That could be where deva comes from. Or it could be a double change... strating as a woman's name at some point, as "Diva", becomes popular, is used for men, too eventually, but with a slight spellign change. Eventually name dies down in popularity but still appears occaissionally.

Devon Malcolm, the Jamaican-born fast bowler who took nine wickets for 57 for England against South Africa at The Oval in 1994, murmuring "You guys are history." Once mentioned by a confused chairman of selectors in the phrase "Who could forget Malcolm Devon?"
But I always think of Deva as Chester.

There's a young(*) actor called Devon Sawa.
He played the "alive" version of Caspar (The Friendly Ghost) in a film of the same name.
(*) I recently noticed a disturbing problem with dates and how I think of them. For example, I think of series 4 of Blakes 7 as the "new" one - despite the fact that I remember their original broadcast and it was over twenty years ago now. So the word "young" I used when describing Devon Sawa will probably refer to him being in his mid-twenties by now.
