Quoting me (what dreadfully bad taste, sorry):
It's not so much promises that don't deliver, as whole stories that read as if the characters and the plotline were concocted by Disney.
It occurs to me (in my usual insomniac state) that it's not just fanfic that suffers from the 'adult ghettoisation'.
I recall a school-friend trying to persuade me to join Horizon way back when I was around 16 (and believe me, a more innocent or sheltered 16-year-old never walked this earth). She provided me with two or three year's worth of their material, interviews, newsletters, posters &c (though I don't recall any fiction), and I declined on grounds that it seemed far too childish.
