Indeed. In some cases it's the thinness of the text that makes for the interest.
Much like how I tend to prefer modern-dress Shakespeare to period-dress Shakespeare-- because I do like seeing the different spin on the words having it in modern dress gives. I like Shakespeare precisely because of the potential for interpretation...
The best ever opera I've seen by miles and miles was a modern-dress, highly colloquial English translation of Don Giovanni.
As I recall, one of the ideas suggested at the B7 movie discussion at Redemption was the possibility of recasting the series and essentially running the same again with different actors and a better class of special effects. (Apologies if I'm misquoting someone, I wasn't taking notes.)
