The coup in 'Traitor' would be different - President Servalan has disappeared - and if the Federation officials had gone there they would have found her spaceship wrecked, loads of 'violent' links and drawn the 'logical' conclusion.
Sorry if someone has picked this up, but I haven't seen a reply yet - Servalan's adventure at Terminal may have weakened her, but she appears to have been active as President Servalan after that. In Traitor, we are told that she was reported dead in the rearguard action on Geddon.
Or do you mean that her enemies declared her officially dead, and the woman commanding the troops who remained loyal on Geddon an impostor?
This might work - she decides to make the best of being officially dead by abandoning her identity as Servalan and adopting a new one.
I do wish we were told more about Geddon, and the faction who seized power. Let's hope Stephen was right about the new President!
