Funnily enough, he was. One of the hardest skills to master in acting is really responding to what is really happening in the moment. A bad actor, having hurt his wrist in a fall, would pretend it hadn't happened and carry on doing exactly what he had planned to do in rehearsal. A good actor acknowledges the hurt wrist, and allows it to influence his performance.
