It's an interesting episode Blake. I liked seeing Blake less than unscathed since we'd last seen him and his character development...a very raw edge to it, less civil in an increasingly hostile environment. He played the mercenary part well and the way he treated Arlen, the reference to "girl" and his lack of concern over her injuries, keeping her at bay until he was sure of her authenticity.
We'd seen some "specialist" forces before in Power Play too, section leader Clegg and his death squad. More like an SS unit than a special forces role. The whole structure of the Federations military system is quite interesting, especially looking at the differing accents...it borrows heavily on existing traditions present in the British military. Roger Moore was put into the intelligence corp during the war apparently because of his accent..."now look here." He didn't fit the infantry's description of a soldier and you could imagine his responses to being told to "climb that bloody hill Moore!" "Certainly Corporal." Thats not how you f***ing do it Moore!" "Well, I'm terribly sorry." but I digress. It's interesting the Federation was still looking for Blake too, he was still considered a threat of significance. Avon needed him, his ability to stir up the rabble and given Avon's exploits you've have thought he was the greater threat in the grand scheme of things. I guess the importance of Blake was highlighted in Terminal when Avon risked everything to get him.... Says much for Blake as a leader when Avon spent two series' trying to usurp him at every corner and undermine his moral rationale. nathan
