Dana suggested: It occurred to me last night that, since many statements made in B7 reflect an economical attitude toward truth (perhaps it's a scarce, rationed resource) perhaps the decedent was Gan's "woman" and the trooper's wife, and the trooper killed her when she happened to be in bed with Gan at the time.
I had never thought of that possibility, but it seems so very in keeping with human nature that I like it very much. It's very plausible and taints Gan with some of the responsibility for what happened to her-- yet another Balke's 7 situation where none of the heroes are squeaky-clean. And it does suit the phrasing perfectly. The woman was married to the trooper, but was "Gan's woman" by her own heart. Here's an eerie idea for a fanfic-- what if Gan's woman (wife, lover, as you will) was only injured, and transformed into a mutoid after the incident? Or what if she was never really dead-- he was deliberately misinformed to make him angry (hey, people do strange things in the Federation). We've seen some interesting on screen scenes with Travis and the mutoid he appears to have known, and of course, Avon and Anna-- what would happen if Gan had met the woman he loved on the other side of the struggle?
