Sorry if someone has picked this up, but I haven't seen a reply yet - Servalan's adventure at Terminal may have weakened her, but she appears to have been active as President Servalan after that. In Traitor, we are told that she was reported dead in the rearguard action on Geddon.
In Sand she described the Presidency as "stolen in my absence". Which implies that the coup occurred around the time of the events in Terminal.
Or do you mean that her enemies declared her officially dead, and the woman commanding the troops who remained loyal on Geddon an impostor?
Interesting. Of course, Terminal might have been her best hope of saving her rule. If Geddon is beseiged, she slips out to meet Avon. If her plan had worked she would have come to lift the seige in the Liberator which would have been a massive propaganda coup.
This might work - she decides to make the best of being officially dead by abandoning her identity as Servalan and adopting a new one.
I do wish we were told more about Geddon, and the faction who seized power.
So do I. The absence of Federation politics and it's replacement with the Macguffin of the week plots are, IMO, the main reason that Season 4 is not nearly as good as the first three.
Let's hope Stephen was right about the new President!
If a faction wanted to kick out Servalan - "She's where ? Not out chasing Avon again ?" - but couldn't decide which of them got to be President then a cipher like Jarriere would be the obvious choice :)
Of course what they don't know is that Jarriere is only pretending to be slow.....
Stephen.
