Just because Gan's bigger doesn't mean he can take more without being bothered. In fact, it could be argured a large man would hardly ever be physically attacked and might not have much resistance to it. Add to that his Limiter keeping him from being able to use the full amount of force, and I would say he is more vulnerable than Avon.
It could also be argued that a .38 slug in the face at point-blank range could make a nasty mess of either of them.
