You know, I am going to have to put up a wall-sized map of England and do some studying. I don't know if you've just accomplished the equivalent of a trip from New York to Dallas, or a shuttle hop from Boston to Washington, D.C. :-(
It's shameful how little I know of British geography, especially in view of the hundreds of novels I read and TV programs I've watched that are set there. Sum total of my knowledge: I could make a dot on the map where London is, and I could approximate the borders of Scotland and Wales. Outside of that, I know the names of some counties --and have zero idea where they are, or what they are like geographically, or their historical significance, or how they differ from each other. (Hmm. Get a 'child's history of Britain', too, I guess.)
When I see posts by Brits who clearly know where our states are, and how they differ in climate/industry/way of life I cringe at my ignorance. What's worse, I don't think I'm outside the American norm in this matter. Says a lot for our schooling, eh?
