She was playing a social worker, or similar, trying to help a young man with schizophrenia. It was a bit worthy - a lot of exhortations about how we should accept and treat mental illness rather than trying to hush it up - but it was nice that the social worker turned out to be competent and understanding rather than (as the young man's mother originally assumed) an impractical do-gooder. (I speak as the daughter of a retired psychiatric social worker.)
