Julia mentioned the names of the spaceships in Iain Banks novels. I really like those. The 'Excessive Use Of Force' the 'Anticipation of a New Lover's Arrival' the 'Very Little Gravitas Indeed'. So much more interesting than the 'Enterprise' or (I hate to admit) the 'Liberator'.
The ships in Banks' novels are (mostly) individuals to a much greater extent than ships on most other SF. That said, I'll agree with you :-)
My personal favourites are the GCU (General Contact Unit, sort of an explorer ship) _Poke It With A Stick_ and the ROU (Rapid Offensive Unit, a warship) _Frank Exchange Of Views_.
I would like to rename Scorpio the 'This Time It's Personal'
DOesn't really match Slave's personality, does it? _Whatever You Say, Master_ would be more suitable, I think.
I'm torn as to a good name for the Liberator though. The 'Inevitable Triumph of the Proletariat' perhaps, or the 'Hooray for Us'
