There seems to be a misconception that liking Avon means seeing him as Percival Pureheart in all things. Just because one doesn't agree that his actions in Deliverance are Deeply Appalling doesn't mean that one doesn't recognise other times when they are (Power, anyone?)
And to be honest, bleeding heart or no, Blake isn't likely to agree to a 'lily of the field' on a fighting ship either. Nor Jenna. (Vila and Gan, maybe :-)). If she's of no use on the Liberator, she has no place there. That's the reality of the situation they're in.
