The plot is excellent, vintage Dr Who set in a universe that would look remarkably like our own, were it not for the presence of assorted aliens and monsters. In this case, the real-life inspiration is the maiden, and fatal, voyage of the airship R101 in 1930. None of the original crew are aboard the Who universe R101, but other details of her flight are historically accurate.
While it is undoubtedly a brilliant production in which Gareth Thomas has an absolute gift of a part, there is one gaping plot hole; namely the awkward fact that there were 6 *survivors* of the R101.
Even ignoring this, the body-counting at the end makes no sense, as Charley originally *took the place of* one of the boy stewards -- so there wasn't an extra person on board to make up for Lord Tamworth's disappearance. There would thus have been one passenger unaccounted for in any case -- as it is, they are short of *two*.
