Actually this is better than "destroy Federation by means of answering distress signals which may or may not be a trap of some kind and anyway only involve a couple of people." (OK, one result was being able to nick Orac, but that was sheer luck.)
I kept waiting for the rescue-ees to be guerilla warfare instructors en route to Federation Space Command Elite Training Camp.
