I don't doubt that might have been among his reasons; but the one I heard most was that circumstances simply made it impossible for him to get any further production of the series funded. Even the Sci-Fi Channel was eager to do the show; unfortunately, JMS approached them with the offer *after* they had already committed all their original production dollars to 4 new programs.
