Not necessarily.
Yes necessarily.
To write a fanfic story and still keep it within the boundaries of canon, all you have to do is make sure it doesn't contradict anything we see on screen.
OK, so the only evidence you'd be willing to accept is if Avon got up in 'Aftermath' and said "By the way, I'm not gay and I've never had sex with Blake". Or would you argue he was lyign then :-)
We are not looking to prove that they are homosexual or bisexual just that that possibility is not excluded.
It is not specifically excluded, but that is becase the thought of this interpretation never crossed anyone's mind.
fair game for fanfic that stays within the boundaries of canon.
Fair game for the fantasies of individuals, one cannot control what others get off on, but it cannot be said to 'grow' out of canon. You can't find a shred of evidence to support this interpretation. If you (and I mean 'you' generic rather than specific) wrote an essay arguing Bklake and Avon were lovers you'd failt the course becasue you wouldn't be able to provide suifficent textual evidence.
Some people however have made interpretations of various scenes between Avon and Blake that suggest a possible sexual or potentially sexual relationship. This in their opinion adds strength to their stories.
But as has been pointed out (by I think, Fiona Moore) if you go back and look at these scenes what some of these people have claimed happened (Avon's hand falls in Blake's lap) simply does not happen in the scene.
If you watch Blake/Avon scens looking for sexual tension, esp. if you want to see sexual tension, then you're more than likely going to find it. And, IMHO, you're more elikely to lok for it if you've been told that it's there, or have read fiction which alters your perception of how they reacte to one another.
Let's be honest A/B slash is about sexual attraction to the actors/thier perceived personalities nothing more, nothing less.
Just because your interpretation may be different, doesn't mean yours is right and theirs is wrong. Both can be viable interpretations of a scene.
OK, then 'Schindler's List' is pro-Nazi. And 'Hong Kong Phooey' is about the treatment of Japanese Americans in US intermnent camps during WWW2. And has a complex metaphor about the phlogiston/oxygen debate and Joseph Lister in there too.
Rubbish.
As an aside, there is no rule that fanfic has to stay within canon -
Of course. If more people admitted that thier fantasties wre just that, and were not supported by the show, this debate would be a lot simpler.
