Dorian's basement room was carved out of a special mineral deposit, and derived its properties from that. He told Avon about it, and Vila heard as he hid on the stairs.
What was to stop either of them from using any or all of the others to enable him to live longer, apart from his conscience? Did anyone have the room or the access to it blown up? Have I missed something? If I'd been a member of that crew, I'd have been extremely nervous, esp. as Avon got more unstable.
In the novelisation, which so far as I'm aware was taken from draft scripts, the room *was* blown up in the final scene. I seem to recall someone posting a bit from the script which demonstrated that this scene was originally in the script as well.
