I think if Avon had been standing outside the door and overheard the conversation as Vila was then Vila wouldn't have stood a chance. Avon would certainly not gone to hide as Vila did and would probably have shot him right there.
If Avon didn't overhear then Vila I think would have at least tried to get rid of him but I think he'd have dithered and fretted about it so much that Avon would have had ample opportunity to get Vila first.
