I'm beginning to wonder if we should be grateful that Meegat wasn't an avatar of Zuul (as in Ghostbusters).

Vila says no.
"Then....DIE!"
There might not have been the opportunity for Avon to whack Vila across the head and tell him the answer should've been yes.
