I've looked at both stories, and I don't think there was any actual plagiarism. The basic idea of both stories is a fairly common one in SF or fantasy series fanfic, as Susan Beth pointed out. It's a fairly obvious way to get two characters together who aren't obviously involved in canon. So I think it's more a case of two writers using the same idea, one far more effectively than the other.
