From: Cheryl _ avonsgirl@yahoo.com.au of the tiny minority - if even one child, gains an incorrect impression of human behaviour through this sort of material,
I admit I read only to this point, but it's triggered a question. What is an incorrect impression of human behaviour, in this case? I admit I'm still stuck with a hefty degree of naivety in certain aspects of human nature, but I think what you really mean is behaviour out on the extreme (or maybe not quite so extreme) edges of the spectrum of behaviour (don't go mentioning medians and suchlike, because I may switch off and miss a pertinent point); and the fear that a child might believe it is more to the centre of the spectrum, because that is the impression it gained through reading "this sort of material". This sounds rather like the violence on television debate, and is a deeply rutted path that doesn't seem to lead to an answer. Instead, it goes around in a circle, and I'm just a bit sick of setting off along a promising path, only to find that I'm back at the beginning again. So, if you don't mind, I'll just sit here for a little and try to find my bearings. Or wait for a penguin that knows where its going.
Regards Joanne
