One of the benefits of working at home is that you can watch episodes of things back over extended lunch breaks. So I pulled out 'Sand'. And I think it's still one of the better ones from the fourth season.

Yes, she's super in that scene.

No, I never had a problem with either of these, possibly because I was so young when I watched them. Vampire sand is a perfectly reasonable proposition when you're nine.
Last but not least, one more thing about "Sand": the opening scene, with Keller's voiceover and the pictures of Virn is imho the most eerie and atmospheric beginning of any B7 episode.
Yes, that's wonderful - creepy, and lovely writing.
Although the sets for the planets are pretty awful, it works for the base, which feels very claustrophobic. One other bit which I like a lot from 'Sand' is Soolin's idea that the others are cursed. I wonder which came first - this bit or the script for 'Blake'.
