True, but do any of us speak purest BBC-British? (My accent is a muddledly mix of Australian, Dad's English and Mum's Welsh). A mere commonwealth wouldn't make our descendents *all* want to talk like Wallace Greenslade* ... would it?
(for those who haven't heard it, BBC announcer from the Goon Show. No one on Earth has ever sounded quite so - so - *English* to my ears).
