I have this wonderful vision of Section Leader Travis walking along a row of terrified Officer Cadets standing to attention, all dressed in black uniforms until he comes to Servalan in off the shoulder ball gown. Future historians would later muse that the subsequent history of the Federation would have been very different indeed if he'd been fitted with the prosthetic arm at that point.
I suppose that the Federation might have been like 18th Century England, and people might have been able to purchase commissions. I can see Servalan as one of the decadent Aristos in Sharpe.
