Could I put in a request - if your fan fiction was published in a magazine which is now out of print, would you please post it somewhere on the web (preferably Judith's Library, as that makes it easy to find)? It's very frustrating to read rapturous reviews of something that as a newbie, geographically isolated from long time fans, I have no hope of obtaining.
Okay, my old B7 fanfic doesn't generate rapturous reviews often (there wasn't ever that much of it to begin with), but...here's one reason that writers don't do this.
This would be the process for me: I'd have to go figure out what zine a story was in (because I don't have a perfect memory, and I might recall which zine it went to, but not specifically which issue) and then try to get current contact information for the editor to find out whether or not the zine is still in print. And *then* retype the thing, because a LOT of my B7 fanfic was written on a typewriter, and much of the rest of it was on my ancient and long-deceased Macintosh. And I don't own a scanner.
And most of my fannish time these days (which is quite limited, sadly) is devoted to trying to write fanfic in fandoms that I'm currently *active* in (I love B7, but I no longer write it, and only read the fiction posted on the lists), and I'd be reluctant to give up writing time to retype old fanfic.
I can understand the frustration -- I really can -- but it's not anything malicious that's keeping some of us from making older fanfic available.
