Sally asked:
What suprises me is that Tarrant isn't down for any rescues - I wonder
where
my image of him as Lord of the Cavalry Charges comes from? Anyone?
Probably because he's usually the first to charge to the rescue when someone is in trouble. Which doesn't necessarily mean he always succeeds/should get credit, but sometimes he should, per my pov. Also, a lot depends on how you count a rescue. Is it a rescue if the person/persons to be rescued are in danger but not actually prisoners?
Off the top of my head and probably forgetting some of Tarrant's charges/rescues:
Powerplay: Death Squad trooper about to blast Avon into oblivion; Tarrant saves him. And one might count Tarrant's timely intervention when he knocked Avon unconscious and prevented Klegg from identifying Avon, but I'm not sure Avon would count it. He'd probably feel Tarrant should have come up with a less personally painful-to-him intervention. :)
Volcano: Tarrant and Dayna rescue Cally. One could argue which of them should get credit, but I'd allot it equally. Tarrant makes the decision that they *should* attempt the rescue (Dayna might possibly have declined if on her own). Then Tarrant gets shot and it's Dayna who takes out the troopers with grenades.
Dawn: Tarrant charges out to rescue Vila's "body." Tarrant "rescues" Orac by providing a cleverly deceptive description.
City: Retrieving Vila is a group effort, but it's Tarrant who insists they are going to stay and wait for him when Avon wants to leave.
Children: Tarrant's the lead voice in the let's go rescue Auron faction.
Rumours: Dayna and Tarrant pluck Avon from the Federation cell. They want to pop back down to the palace to rescue him later, but Avon returns before the teleport coordinates are reset.
Ultraworld: Tarrant is the first to voice "let's go rescue Cally." Dayna and Tarrant rescue Cally and Avon; again, I see credit going to both of them. Tarrant's explorations keep him and Dayna from getting caught with Avon. Tarrant's explorations allow him to know what to do to restore Cally and Avon's minds. Dayna uses the explosive to break the two of them out of captivity. Both Dayna and Tarrant free Avon and Cally before they are fed to the Core.
Moloch: Tarrant and Vila: team effort to rescue Dayna and Avon.
Death-Watch: Team effort, with Tarrant playing key role, when they "rescue" Teal and Vandor from the Federation.
Terminal: Cally and Tarrant charge down to protect Avon's back.
I could continue through fourth season, but I think the above paints enough of a picture to answer the question.
