No mention is made of him making restitution to the inhabitants of Destiny for this 'wanton act of destruction' despite their being fairly cash strapped at the time. No doubt he would have felt morally obliged to do so - so would he have paid the equivalent sum, or provided them with 'another spaceship of equal or better quality'? (The rest of the crew would - probably - concur with replacing what had been destroyed, even 'I am a man of my word' (g).)
Being so cash strapped, I think they used a rental. Of course, the deposit was a lost cause, so they might have wanted reimbursement for that. Avon would have argued (the clause in the lease clearly said "said monies to be forfeit in case of damage or destruction of vehicle caused by (but not limited to) reckless driving, acts of nature, or one of the crew trying to murder you and selling out to pirates or other, unnamed thieves." They knew the risks when they signed it). Blake would have argued the ethics with Avon while Jenna recounted past smuggling adventures that might or might not resemble the current crisis. Cally, meanwhile, would have trotted off to the treasure room, got together something roughly worth the deposits and the watches of the survivors (Vila having found something to do while everyone argued), come back, handed it to them, and helped them off the ship, and left orbit while the argument still raged (it ended a few hours later when they ran into pursuit ships and Avon and Blake forgot all about it).
