Andrew erote:
My problem with 'standard' speed is the way it seemed to be defined
originally. In Cygnus Alpha, Zen >asks the new crew to state speed and course. Blake then looks to Jenna for advice, and Jenna hazards
"Standard?". Blake says "Standard speed" to Zen, which Zen accepts.
Now, if this means they travel at the Liberator's average/usual speed, how
do they then do "standard by >ten"? If the standard speed of my car is, lets say, 60kph, then at standard by ten I could be doing >600kph (more, if it's geometric)!
I tend to assume that Standard Speed is the speed at which they can keep going indefinitely without draining the energy banks - at Standard by ten they seem to run out of power in a very short period. Useful for a quick escape but not much good for routine journeys. Using this explanation, there is no problem with a large difference between standard speed and maximum speed.
