Well, was what they said against the rules of this list?
<BIG SIGH>
No, it was NOT against the rules of the list. I never said it was.
Let me take a parallel example. England is a country which, so far as I know, still retains the right to free speech. This means that I am perfectly free to stand up in as public a place as I want and say, for instance, "I think the death penalty should be reinstated," or "I think there's nothing cruel about foxhunting" (neither of which, btw, are positions I agree with, but they are examples of controversial topics very much in the news at the moment).
However, by the same token, anybody hearing me has equally got the right to say "You are one sick cow," or "Have you ever considered how the fox feels?"
Or, to sum it up, I have nothing against people talking about Avon Lust on Lysator (as I said before, I tend not to read these threads except by accident or if they're funny), but by the same token, if I want to say "Look, was that comment in the best of taste?" I don't want to be accused of running the Ministry of Truth.
FYI, one of the things I greatly like about Calle's handling of the Lyst is his easygoing attitude to the airing of diverse views.
Excuse me, now, I'm off to torture the prisoners before I make my acceptance speech in front of the Reichstag...
