If anything, it's the funsters (who I do not consider nitwits, whatever Penny might say) who are the egotistical ones, because they seem to assume the right to jump in on any conversation and make it their own with scant regard for those who are trying to enjoy themselves in their own fashion.
I've followed this with some surprise. My own policy is to read everything and then decide what I want to post replies to, so the somewhat chaotic and exuberant nature of debate on this list is, for me at least, a given rather than a nuisance. Clearly for Fiona and Neil at least, things look slightly different.
Could I suggest that if a serious discussion is taking place and someone wants to follow up a Marxist exegesis of "Stardrive" with an observation about Vila's lovely smile they at least append frivolous (or carnal) to their title so people can have some prior warning. Could I also suggest, and I am as guilty of this as anyone else on the list, that when a discussion has changed that the title changes - so Threads entitled "The Federation, really nasty or what ?" do not in fact pertain to the naffest outfit in the show. And that we have a policy of not singling out individuals in titles to personify aspects we are displeased with. (In fairness to Sally and Wendy and anyone else in the future). And finally that when someone thinks of a really good Bon Mot and is so overcome with this that they forget all of the above they don't get jumped on unless they're really egrerious (sp ?) offenders. Frankly the serious and frivolous aspects of this list are both too wonderful to lose.
Now take me to Cuba or the penguin gets it !
Stephen.
