For all of us who have desperately wanted to see the 1975-6 Gareth Thomas version of How Green Was My Valley the exciting news is that it is now available on video and DIRT CHEAP.
I have been inquiring about BBC making this 6 hour version starring Sian Phillips available for years. i have also bugged friends into contacting the BBC, too. And I have contacted various video companies that tend to sell British drama.
Just today I discovered that the Sian Phillips/Gareth Thomas video is to be available very cheaply in the next week or so. AND if you PRE-order you not only get to save a few pounds but shipping is FREE and this is very important to us Americans. You can order online with a credit card or call.
Be careful as the video company also sells the Wqlter Pigeon American movie, too. The Gareth Thomas video is labeled Sian Phillips and is called a twin pack.
IF you pre-order before June 8, you get the set for 13.59 pounds and the shipping is free.
If you order June 8 or after, the price is 16.99 and you will have to pay for shipping which for non-UK residents could be pricey.
You pre-order or order this video from
http://www.choicesdirect.co.uk
or you can call this UK number 010601-29702
Make sure that you order the Sian Phillips twin pack.

Now that this dream has come true, I would ask everyone who is a Gareth Thomas fan to write to the BBC and ask that they make the 1982 four episode story The Bell available on video. It starred Ian Holm and Gareth Thomas has a major role in it. I would think with the new show being made about Iris Murdock's life and the fact that Ian Holm is a high profile actor these days that there is a very good chance of getting The Bell also released on video.
However, it will not happen unless the BBC and video companies think that there is an interest in it. So, please, think about writing the BBC and requesting that The Bell be made available on video.
