Sounds like the not-altruistic version of the Heathcliff-Cathy-Linton
triangle, doesn't it? Which triggers horrible possibilities with a Kate Bush
tune <screams>
And now we're here
In this wi-i-ine, wi-i-ine, wi-i-ine cellar
Dear me
Glad you're here, though I fear
You've put a spanner in …
[View More]the works
No, it's too horrible to think about. And that's just Calle's reaction,
should he be in a bad mood...

To this matter, I would question Avon's apparent averse also. I don't
believe
Avon's statement that the great bank fraud was committed in the attempt
to
'undermine confidence in the Federation credit system', any more than I
believe it was just for the money.
I believe what the script gives us is that some people in the Federation
thought it was political because it could undermine the system. Not that
that was actually his reason for it.
Avon gives what seems to be the most probable …
[View More](IMO) actual reason when
he says "We would have ben so rich, no one could touch us." That rings
true with his character's other behaviors; choosing safety over risk
until some risk becomes the path to greater safety. In a corrupt system,
wealth is the quickest route to safety. Fighting the corrupt system,
winning is the only safety.
Speaking of the Avon/Anna relatioship, as someone else brought up
earlier-- it is likely she did pose herself to him as someone with
anti-Federation political sentiments. After all, she was infiltrating
his life to see if he *was* political. OTOH, she may have posed as a
Crusader, someone with serious plans, or as a Waif, one whose dreams
were dying and who needed a hero. Any thoughts by others on this?

Which of course begs the question, how does one tell who is first, second,
ninth, thirty-first etc ... it's not exactly like the Olympics, you know:-)
Vila's 'number two' is just a colourful way of saying Avon is *one* of the
top computer …

I think he *becomes* more aware of it over time. 'Tis a little hard not to
when the most desirable woman in the galaxy clearly fancies you (yes, he's
also very aware that a lot of his appeal is the lovely shiny interstellar
hot rod he inherited from Blake, but not *all* of it :-) and perfect
strangers drag you off to secluded caves and tell you how …
[View More]beautiful you are.
But I don't think he shows much *interest* in it, except when he can use it
as a weapon (Sarcophagus, Power). Unquestionably, his sense of superiority
does come first and foremost from his intellect.

Umm ... have to admit I haven't thought this out very far - maybe they chose
children who were …
[View More]already patients of Havant? Looked up three recent cases
from his own files, that were likely to 'take' well, then worked backwards
from there? Therefore, the outpatient admissions would be there for an

Varon's assumption that that's when they were implanted is wrong - that
happened later.
Somehow, I don't think so, but 'tis the best I can come up with right now

What they should have done, I guess, was put in robots or androids. They
could have had the technology (Project Avalon, DeathWatch). We could have
had a whole heap of those little robots from SLD running around.

You were around Hay-on-Wye? Grrr.
Though I don't think a future version of that town would do much of a trade

Having more-or-less left the Lyst a few weeks ago because I was too
stressed out to deal with some of the stuff that was going on, may I
say how utterly, utterly wonderful it is to come back and see all
these great posts reminding me of just why it is I love this show so
very much?
I'm not going to do my own top-twenty list, because it would just
duplicate stuff other people have already included on theirs, but I
just thought I'd mention two more great moments that I don't think
I've seen …
[View More]anybody else bring up yet:
* When Blake refuses to kill Travis in "Duel," and Avon shakes his
head with that indulgent, amused, "I *knew* it!" expression on his
face.
* When Anna's men come for Servalan, and she shakes their hands off
her. I love the sense of dignity she exudes there, and the feeling
that, even in these circumstances, she is still in control of
herself and the situation. One of the all-time best Servalan
moments.

No, the Mad Wife is Supreme Commander these days. Servalan on the flight

Is Avon Mr. Darcy with computer skills? Proud, arrogant and

struggles not to lose his heart to? She does have fine eyes. :)
