Warlord

Just watched Warlord again, does anyone else think Tarrant acts more like a teenager with Avon the guardian/ adult figure, at the end. OK his beloved is dead, but he's almost crying, running as though having a tantrum and lastly wasnt it a little obvious. She must go down, it's her job. Doh!!! It's just he's supposed to be a hardened space 'privateer', rebel, going around the galaxy. He's supposed to have a hardened an edge, understand the realities. Yet he seems a little niave and it's not just this episode. Maybe some-one can help me out with the episodes, but apart from Avon becoming boss-man, he also seeems to become the paternal figure with Vila the friendly uncle!!?? And no, IMHO, the children can't. No, sorry Neil but Deliverance is far more misogynistic than Power. In Deliverance Meegat is totally subservient to Lord Avon. She's incapable of launching the rocket herself and requires a man to do it. The rocket is nothing more than a crude metaphor and once the gene bank is launched Avon leaves her, to die presumably. I suppose you read this as him dominating her, or her being unable to stand up for herself-- I, on the contrary, felt the message he was trying to give her was that he respected her and (while he wasn't going to dispell her belief in his demigod status) that she should address him without undue deference and ceremony. I don't know how she acted around her own people, but the fact she *didn't* contact anyone else for 'what do I do now' seems to indicate that, when not in the presence of the Prophecized One, she is quite the boss of herself. Please bear in mind, he is a religious figure to her. It is not necessarily any more embarrassing for her to kneel before him than for a Wiccan to make a shrine to the Goddess.

In mid-December, with + 18 C degrees outside instead of harsh Balkan winters we used to have before, I turn my TV on. Dragging his body on a pair of crutches through some sort of botanical garden, a scientist talks about creating human habitats on Mars. Cool - with some luck, we may even manage to hop onto a new world before we totally destroy this one. Sorry, I still have more sympathy for the primitive consciousness which viewed this world as a beloved mother, than for the consciousness which views it as parcelled property to be irresponsibly consumed and eventually discarded. I don't think it would hurt if the exploration of space were conducted with the former. Oops, no B7, except maybe B7ish gloom. N.

Stardrive in SFX

Calle, I finally checked my settings and my digest was set in MIME. I changed it to TEXT and now I am free of all that annoying extra nine lines (or more) in the headers. Until I got today's digest, I had not realized how totally obnoxious that had been. So my problem with the new system is now solved. Joyce
