Saw Weapon yesterday and only just realised bits of it that didn't make sense. The girl who used to be a slave (Rochelle?) told Servalan not to press the button on the blue box because she'd just marked her and Travis for death. Which makes it sound like anyone marked within range would all die if the button was ever pressed. Which sounds reasonable to me. Except for the fact that earlier Servalan uses a guard to demonstrate imipak to Blake, Avon and Gan. At that point Travis was also marked but didn't die (and he was standing right next to her). So if it does only kill people you point it at, Rochelle wouldn't have been a threat to Servalan. Or have I just missed something here? Nic

Why do things look so hilarious when translated into German? I was laughing aloud as I was singing it. I think it has something to do with the wonderful polysyllabic words. Had a local B7 group meeting this afternoon and the last two to leave came up with the following filk: Liberator live for ever! By Judith Proctor (with a bit of help from Nic) Tune: Ode to Joy When I sit and watch my telly, Pictures pass before my eyes, Little dinky spaceships flying, Through those alien backdrop skies. Curly hair styles, men with sideburns, High-heeled boots and leather gear, Evening gowns observed in quarries, These are to my heart so dear. Orac, little lights a-blinking, Walls that wobble just a bit, Lots of smoke and big explosions, On a BBC budget. Since I don't remember the source, I can't vouch for reliability. I'm not even sure if I was told it was in "Shakaar" or if I drew that conclusion on my own. I do know I've been meaning to see the episode ever since to check but I haven't seen it on TV (and I'm not wild about buying the videotape just to check, though I may get to that). Does anyone know if there's a cheaper option, such as an address where DS9 scripts can be found? Hamlet

Any more for Hamlet? There's half a dozen of us going to the matinee on 17 Feb. There's a touch tour before the show and provided there aren't too many visually impaired people (the tour is primarily for them, so they obviously get priority), then we can go along on it. It's on at the Brunton theatre in Musselburgh near Edinburgh. Gareth's playing two parts. I attribute it to bad direction of the episode, but as that is a non-allowed solution, I have to assume that IMIPAK could either be set to a range OR to point and range. There are two possible interpretations of how imipak works. 1/ It zaps everything in the set range. This appears to be the interpretation when Coser explains the weapon's functions to the Clone, when Servalan kills Coser and when Servalan is about to kill Blake, Avon and Gan - and is stopped by Rashel who has the marking gun. 2/ It can be set to zap a specific target. This interpretation makes sense when Servalan kills the guard but leaves Travis standing, but at not otherwise ! As Dana points out there aren't enough buttons for it to behave with this level of sophistication. Personally I think interpretation 1 is correct and Travis' survival was due to bad direction. But then Weapon is the best example of the technological impasse plot where both our heroes and the Feds race to gain some kind of uber-weapon which will end the conflict decisively. Of course this can't be allowed to happen and so the main interest is elsewhere. The real point of Weapon is to set up the idea that Blake wants to blow up control and that Travis' mental stability is somewhat doubtful. Just as the real point of Orbit is Avon hunting Vila with a gun, or that the real point of Sand is Servalan & Tarrant. Frankly I think they did the genre to death in the fourth season. Much, much, much less Avon action. Rewrite the whole season 3 and 4. Send Avon to Epheron after Star One, and leave Blake aboard. Avon still gets to play an essential part in the final episode: Episode 52: "AVON" JENNA (walks up to Blake): He sold us, Blake. All of us. Even you. (Avon enters the tracking gallery. He is fat, unshaven and dressed as a bounty hunter. He has a big scar across his nose.) BLAKE: Is it true? AVON: Blake, it's me, Avon. BLAKE: Stand still! Have you betrayed us? Have you betrayed ME? AVON: Of course not. BLAKE (holsters his gun with a sigh of relief): Of course not. It must have been a misunderstanding, Jenna. (to Avon) For what it's worth, I have always trusted you. AVON: Good. I counted on that. (He shoots Blake.) Servalan, your troops may come out now. (The Federation troops kill Blake's crew. The end.) Hmm... This last episode hasn't actually changed much. N.
