I'm trying to keep up this this conference, but the signal-to-noise ratio is getting really low. Now I'm going to kill-file this particular thread and hope that (i) it really doesn't lead anywhere, and (ii) that it's an exception in this forum.
(I'm commenting a random text in the thread, I'm not saying that the particular commented text is noise).

That's not really an all that common usage. You usually have some code in between fork() and exec().
Otherwise you generally speaking use the system functions to start programs, such as popen().

I stopped reading this conference when the discussion went out of hand, and now I tried to catch up.
In Lyskom, usually read up conferences whwre I've lagged behind, rather than skipping all old texts. I prefer doing it that way, even if I do skip lots oof texts in the most noisy conferences. (Currently I have a total of 12802 unread texts in conferences where I'm a member, and I rarely get down to zero).
