An advance notice on possible CVS breakage

If anyone would notice something strange when committing or tagging things in the Pike CVS (or other repositories hosted on the server), I would appreciate a copy of the output here or in my personal mailbox. Hopefully no problems will occur, but just in case, I thought I'd give some notice, so you don't mutter about breakage non-publicly. For the curious, the code librarian will start indexing the CVS repository by commitinfo and taginfo triggers rather than a cron job, which should hopefully boost performance noticably. The change will take place sometime tomorrow, probably in the morning. (It felt best not to do system maintenance just before going home. :-)

Hang on NT

I've come across a problem with a pike 7.2 lockup on NT (or at least I think it's NT related): A pike process has some threads (seven, to be exact), where some wait on Thread.Queue conditions and one is waiting in a blocking read from a socket. The main thread is running in the normal backend. After a while everything locks up when one thread puts an item in a Thread.Queue and the corresponding reading thread simply doesn't get started. In this state the process seems to be completely locked up, at least a SIGBREAK won't cause a call to the installed signal handler. The only way to get it started again is to close the socket from the other side (at which point the SIGBREAK handler will also get started with the queued up signal). What is at work in the lower layers here? Is there some internal mediating thread that's been locked? Does anyone remember if some fix that's only gone into 7.3 possibly could address this?

Btw, for Pike 7.5, I think we should phase out module_magic.h. The magic can be done much more nicely simply by having PIKE_MODULE_INIT { ... } PIKE_MODULE_EXIT { ... } instead of pike_module_init(void) { ... } pike_module_exit(void) { ... } and having e.g. module_support.h define these macros approprietly. Then you wouldn't have to worry about the order of includes, and if you forget to include the right files you will get a compilation error.

The Windows version of test 10054 does something strange with the string to be compiled. Process.popen(RUNPIKE+\" -e write(\\\"test\\\");\") results in 1:'test' undefined. The following invocation pike -e 'foo: for(;;) { catch { catch { break foo; }; }; }' makes Pike bomb out on POWER with machine code optimizations. The stack is a little too messed up for me to figure out where it went wrong just from the post mortem though. What sequence of bytecodes will be generated by this code?

Besides, you probably don't want to run verify with a pike built with DLDEBUG. Just run it with -e 'Gmp;' and the output should be sufficient.

testsuite.in

Why are all the testsuite.in:s for the pike modules installed when you make install? No testsuites for the C modules are installed, so why install the ones for pike modules?
