Pike 7.5/7.6 roadmap?

Hi, Is there any roadmap for 7.5/7.6? What is new, long term plans, current feauters etc? Current status (in regard to stability and useabulity)? May be something like overview (changelogs are good but not for overview)... Regards, /Al

Catching segfault

Hello list, I have a segfault with a Pike that happens rarely on a busy Camas server. To get a backtrace and fill a bug report I've tried to run it into gdb however I didn't get any segfault for now and I can't run it into gdb for a long time since it is a production server (I saw this error only one time on the development server, too few traffic). Maybe it's not even possible to have a segfault inside gdb because of a strange side effects (maybe the segfault occurs only on a fast process or something). So I'd like to know if it would be possible to catch SIGSEGV in Pike and output a backtrace so that: . You might get more bug reports. . It would be possible to track problems when it's not possible to run inside a debugger or that the error don't happen in this case. Thank you for your reply. -- David Gourdelier

Segfault with GMP (7.4.27/CVS)

Hi, Got it (takes several minutes on P4-1.7G): Pike v7.4 release 27 running Hilfe v3.5 (Incremental Pike Frontend) > gauge { Gmp.fac(10000000); }; Segmentation fault Why I tried this? Just to make some load and measure memory usage :) But there is a problem anyway... Just imagine Pike script in Roxen/Caudium trying to do this... When argument is 10 times less, it is OK. How about making a new 7.4 release this week? I've already taken the time to do the most boring part; updating CHANGES.

Hi, So here it is: Pike v7.4 release 20 running Hilfe v3.5 (Incremental Pike Frontend) > float x; > int n; > x = 1.0; (1) Result: 1.000000 > n = 1; while (x != x + 1.0) { x *= 10.0; n++; }; n; (2) Result: 1 Compiler Error: 1:Undefined identifier x. (3) Result: 1 > Variable "x" is declared and accessible (1). I do something wrong? Regards, /Al

IDA's policy on Pike contributions

Hi, I am not quite sure that this list is right place to ask, but anyway... There is following policy (at http://pike.ida.liu.se/development/cvs/policies.xml): ---snip--- Pike copyrights - we consider all contributions to Pike donations and _claim copyright_ for the entire Pike repository. This also means that IDA will have full power to take _legal actions_ against anyone who would actually manage to break the license. ---snip--- If I undesrtand this right, it basically means that I can't use my code anymore as I wish (and lose my copyright), once it is officially accepted and used in Pike. With policy like this no wonder that contributions from the community are so small... Regards, /Al

benchmark in xenofarm

Hm, would it be possible to benchmark at the end of the xenofarm build? It would be interesting to be able to see performance graph versus revision (time). :) (But maybe people don't want to spend the extra cpu-minute or so?)

Hi, Just tried to assemble, installed nt-tools, etc... Finally get trouble: configure: error: /bin/bash '/net/troll/E/pike-devel/7.4/src/modules/Gmp/configure' failed for Gmp Where to get GMP for win32 which will be recognized by Pike's configure? NB: If somebody curious - I just think that it might be useful if I install xenofarm client on WinXP... :) Regards, /Al

Mutex protection

Hi again, I have another question regarding thread safe programming in Pike. If you have a global object m and that several threads can write to m->foo (where foo is a public variable of this object), then do you need to protect access to m->foo or the entire m object ? Is it the same if it is a mapping ? -- David Gourdelier
