Implicit class construction, _cast() and `=()

Hi everybody, This topic was discussed once here, but... Why _cast() is called only for builtin data types? When I do: (int)something; then something->_cast("int") gets called, but when I do (SomeType)something; then SomeType(something) gets called? I just can't understand why, it seems a bit unlogical (if there is some logic behind - please explain). Additionally, there is no way to distinguish between regular constructor call and when type is casted... And concerning assignment operator overloading. I believe that this will be very useful feature, and it should not be [too] difficult to implement. Well, there will be some problems when target (lvalue) may have more than one type, but in case when it is not multi-type, it should be quite simple. So... If, and only if, the object (class) defines `=() and ``=(), then: * If variable is of type SomeObject, and it is undefined, the function ``=() will be called and it should play constructor's role (we can't simply call constructor here since in this case we can't distinguish between regular constructor call and a call from assignment). * If variable is defined and contains object of type SomeObject, then the function `=() will be called. When there is ambiguity, standard behavior should be used (or exception raised, or compiler error, etc). This way, IMHO, we can keep compatibility, and use very nice and useful feature same time. Hi, I have a problem with Pike 7.2 and localtime. It looks like it returns different values on two machines: On one running FreeBSD (other poeple have the same results with Debian) from pike compiled from source: $ date Tue May 6 11:41:00 CEST 2003 $ date -u Tue May 6 09:41:02 UTC 2003 $ pike Pike v7.2 release 340 running Hilfe v2.0 (Incremental Pike Frontend) > localtime(time()); Result: ([ /* 10 elements */ "hour":11, "isdst":1, "mday":6, "min":33, "mon":4, "sec":54, "timezone":-7200, "wday":2, "yday":125, "year":103 ]) On a Debian woody from the pike package: $ date Tue May 6 11:41:04 CEST 2003 $ date -u Tue May 6 09:41:05 UTC 2003 $ pike Pike v7.2 release 340 running Hilfe v2.0 (Incremental Pike Frontend) > localtime(time()); Result: ([ /* 10 elements */ "hour":11, "isdst":1, "mday":6, "min":34, "mon":4, "sec":1, "timezone":-3600, "wday":2, "yday":125, "year":103 ]) The problem is in the timezone value (3600 and 7200). Caudium Services stopped Friday 09/05/2003 for maintainance.

Hi there, I just wanted to tell you that I will move the main server for Caudium Service to another datacenter this Friday 09/05 starting 2pm or 3pm CEST (Paris's time). Services will returns later in the afternoon to the normal situation. /Xavier

Unable to unsubscribe

Every time I try and unsubscribe it tells me it was unable to find my record. Perhaps it is one of the ones listed ... and it is. Just as I placed it in my email ... but continues to fail finding it. Is there someone that could please remove it for me?

mkdir on win

The configure test on windows gives checking if mkdir takes 1 or 2 arguments... 2 while the actual compilation says efuns.c(740) : warning C4020: 'mkdir' : too many actual parameters Is this cause for alarm?

Installing include files for modules

Ian Carr-de Avelons PikeVideo module needs to include some header files in the Image module. With the current third-party module system that gets tricky. How about installing the include files for modules too? Should all be distributed or only some?

I added one test when I changed sort function, but backed it out when it didn't work on all platforms.
