Problem building pike

Hello, I have problem trying building Pike-v7.2.239 on Linux 2.4.21 / Mandrake 9.1 / gcc 3.2.2 / MySQL-4.0.11a. I don't have the support for mysql. Mysql libraries are in /usr/lib/mysql and headers in /usr/include/mysql. I have tried : CPPFLAGS="-I/usr/include/mysql" LDFLAGS="-L/usr/lib/mysql -R/usr/lib/mysql" ./configure --without-GTK --without-GL --without-GLUT make make install and it doesn't work. What I don't understand is that I have this : /usr/local/pike/7.2.239/lib/modules/Mysql.so after the install. Thank you, -- lrathle(a)teaser.fr

Locale.Charset.ascii exists in 7.4 but is gone in 7.5. Is that intentional?

Hello everyone! My name is Charles Tilbury and I currently reside in Portland, Oregon, USA. I have been working on developing my own language for several months now, only to discover that Pike is almost exactly what I was trying to make! I only wish I had found out about it earlier. I need a fast interpreted language with GUI support for Unix, Windows, and Mac/OS. I am planning to make commercial applications in the area of EDA and embedded software developement tools such as JTAG debuggers. I want to use a GUI compatability suite such as wxWindows to allow portability to my chosen platforms. If I use Pike, I will write the wxWindows/Pike binding and release it under the Pike licensing scheme, but I will probably arrange to encrypt the pike scripts that are part of my applications. This is a very large undertaking that I will be working on with no help. I want to the sure before I start that: 1. The maintainers of Pike are at least not against a project like this. 2. That if I decide to write books about Pike and/or the wxWindows binding to it, that no one has any real objection to it. I would be very interested in hearing your comments. Negative ranges revisited

I got an idea of how to solve the age old issue of getting negative indices in ranges to work. We'd all like to do things like this: foo = foo[..-2]; // Lose the last item. But so far it hasn't worked because of cases like this: foo = foo[..i-1] + foo[i+1..]; // Lose item i. which should work even when i is zero. My idea is to give the unary negation operator an additional literal meaning in the range operator. I.e. in the expression foo[-a..-b] both index operations takes place in the range -sizeof(foo)..-1 instead of the normal 0..sizeof(foo)-1. The expressions a and b are negated as usual. Thus, if they already contain the negative indices a double negation would be necessary: foo[..- -b] That's easily optimized away. Another example: // Lose item i, where i is in the range -sizeof(foo)..-1. foo = foo[..- -(i-1)] + foo[- -(i+1)..]; There's a compatibility issue here, but I think it's minor. Only cases where range expressions are negated are affected. That means expressions that evaluate to values in the range 0 for the first element down to -sizeof(foo)+1 for the last, which I believe is fairly odd. How to convey this to the range lfuns remains to be solved. What do you say? Would it be too strange?

(Ah, stupid Emacs...) ...but a Pike interpreter compiled with machine code support can _not_ handle the platform independent bytecode.

Pike compiler

Hello, my name is Jordi Molgo, and I'm a student from the University of Lleida (Spain). I have been learning and developping with pike for the last three years, and I think that is the best language I have tried (good work, Pike team ;) Currently I am searching for something which could be ok for my Graduate Project. Since the most interesting area in computer science to me is Compiler Design, so I am interested in developping a GCC front-end for some language. And my thoughts came directly to Pike. Uhmm.. why not? Of course, it would handle a little portion of Pike at the beggining, just the enough for my project being accepted. I wanted to contact you before starting anything, and know your opinion about it, as you are the main Pike developpers.
