Next problem is to get Calendar to recognize those. Mirar, what is your suggestion (unless you want to add it yourself)?

Maybe adding a file to the tzdata directory that contains these "zones"? (Also add it to the "files" array in Timezone.pmod.)
They could also be hard-coded in Timezone.pmod but that feels kludgy...
Who made up that standard, anyway?
By the looks of it, nobody did (or were you referring to SMIT?).

With a closer look, that seems 1) against all other standards 2) only by IBM
(CUT0) (CUT0GDT) Coordinated Universal Time (CUT)
It's UTC, not CUT (and not GMT, but some people never learn).
(GMT0) (GMT0BST) United Kingdom (CUT) (WET-2) (WET-2WET) Finland (CUT +2) (MET-11) (MET-11METDT) Solomon Islands (CUT+11) (EET-10) (EET-10EETDT) Eastern Australia (CUT+10) (MEST-3) (MEST-3MEDT) Turkey (CUT +3)
WET = Western Europeean Time, UTC±0 (WEST, UTC+1) MET = Middle Europeean Time, UTC+1 (MEST, UTC+2) EET = Eestern Europeean Time, UTC+2 (EEST, UTC+3)
(WST-4) (WST-4WDT) Gorki; Central Asia; Oman (CUT +4)
WST = Western Standard Time, UTC+8 (australia) also used in Pacific/Apia, UTC-11 - not UTC+4.
I think those timezone abbreviations are AIX local. Prove me wrong?
The US abbreviations seems all correct.
