Nobody has any idea why the 7.8 build hangs but not the 8.0 build? Is it time to abandon pike7.8 already? Actually I'm not sure if there's any good reason to keep multiple versions in parallel in the same manner as Python; it was just packaged that way when I took over.

Since we are pretty far into 8.0 now, I'd say it's time to move forward.
Most smaller projects would probably not even notice the switch to 8.0 and the bigger ones, such as Roxen, have already done the switch.
Others may disagree, but I would say it's perfectly fine to drop 7.8 and only ship 8.0.
