I guess it's impossible to compile pike without pike and thus I suggest that post_modules is deprecated since they no longer have a purpose.

Hasn't it always been impossible to compile CVS pike without pike (or autoconf for that matter)? Snapshots and releases are a different story, since the pike-generated files are included.

Well, it has been since 2000-05-25 (Pike 7.1.3 and later) when the module precompiling system was added and utilized for builtin.cmod.
post_modules and tpike made some sense in Pike 7.0, but not in any later version. The tpike step was removed in Pike 7.6.
