Greetings!
I'm working with Martin Bähr to set up a Pike conference later this year. We had a number of viable options (which was gratifying in itself), and we've narrowed these down to a proposed date and location. We wanted to get some feedback on that to see if there were any big conflicts with anyone out there (obviously, we'd like to have as many folks from IDA as possible, assuming they're interested :)) Right now, we're looking at a conference in Essen, Germany starting somewhere in the first full week of October, the 11th through the 17th. Ideally, the conference would include one or two weekend days so that those who are unable to get time from work would be able to attend.
Once we get a date set, we can start working out the details... Any thoughts, comments, suggestions?
Bill Welliver (self appointed conference co-chair :))
I haven't heard any feedback on the proposal I made earlier this week about having a Pike conference in October. I'm hoping that's just because so many people are on holiday. Does anyone out there have an opinion one way or the other? It doesn't have to be "official"... we're just looking for feedback. Martin's got a potentially very cool venue for us, as well as a software project that's looking to convert

as I was saying before my fat fingers got in the way...
Martin's got a potentially very cool venue for us, as well as a software project that's looking to convert to pike, along with the potential for some local pike users to show up.
I know that there was some question about whether or not a conference is even necessary, but we (martin and I) think a conference is good for keeping people excited about pike, and it lets us all show off our hard work from the past year. It's also a great opportunity to meet new people, and to meet some of us in person.
As always, your thoughts and feedback are most welcome.
Best regards,
Bill

I think it's a good idea, though I am not sure I will be able to attend this year. (Which is not an opinion against the choice of location.)

I'll try to be there too. Maybe I'll volunteer to give a small talk on Pike for biological sequence analysis, it might be that I have submitted a paper on a pike application for that purpose.

Sounds good to me... I hope I can join the conference this year and October isn't too bad for me.

I would like to visit this event - Essen is only 60 km away from me, so I could manage it this time :)
Regards, /Al
I think I'll try to attend this year. If i manage to, I can hold a talk on a certain full-text search engine soon to be contributed to Pike.

Hello,
Right now, we're looking at a conference in Essen, Germany starting somewhere in the first full week of October, the 11th through the 17th. Ideally, the conference would include one or two weekend days so that those who are unable to get time from work would be able to attend.
I think Essen is fine for everyone living in Paris and generally in Europe, there are "low costs" flights from www.germanwings.com to/from Koln to anywhere in Europe, Thalys and car options available. Time is more a problem for me, I think I could attend only the week-end.
