I just yesterday added simple bytecompilation management to the maintainer scripts (with the help of triggers), except for master.pike. There is no way to turn it off at build time short of patching the makefiles, but it has so far always failed completely when I run the build (except for master.pike, which is handled specially, but a master.pike.o created with pike -x dump should work equally well, shouldn't it?). I could, however, simply exclude any .o files from the packages.
