now while i think that any pike user should be able to figure this out, users pr programs wirtten in pike are not nesesarily pike users themselves.
so at least whar works on one system should work on others, and wether pike76 as a link is a good idea or not, the links should be the same accross all distributions of pike.
(strictly speaking that would mean that pike everywhere also needs pike7.6 as a link to make scripts from a debian system work elsewhere, personally i don't care though, i think this versioning in the path is not very practical anyways and should be in the code with the preprocessor versioning method.)
